Generating the error correction file

The error correction file has an important role in dvdisaster:
It is required to recover unreadable medium sectors.

When you have created the medium image on your hard disk, perform the following actions:

1. Choose the image file (1).

The previously read image file will be pre-selected.

2. Select a name for the error correction file.

Click on the Error correction file selection symbol (2a) to bring up a window for selecting the error correction file name.
As a shortcut the file name can also be entered directly into the text field (2b).

3. Create the error correction file.

Click on the "Create" button (3) to generate the error correction file.

The progress will be shown using a percentage reading. Processing a single layered DVD image with the default redundancy takes about 10 minutes on an average 2Ghz system.

Please note:

  • The error correction file can not be created if the image is incomplete or containing read errors.

Generate the error correction file immediately after writing the medium.

  • The image file is no longer required when the error correction file has been successfully created.
dvdisaster will automatically overwrite an existing image file if a different medium is read in.

  • Always keep the error correction file on a reliable storage medium!
From now on you should regularly scan the medium for read errors...
